Mel

Mel Barnes - President

Mr. Barnes' has nearly twenty years of experience in the patent industry. During the 1990s Mr. Barnes focused primarily on patent litigation at a variety of federal district courts and the international trade commission and at firms such as Morgan Lewis & Bockius and Howrey & Simon. More recently, and prior to joining Cronos, Mr. Barnes focused on all aspects of patent monetization including licensing, sales and enforcement at Capital Legal Group, PLLC, where Mr. Barnes remains a member.

He has extensive experience in a variety of technologies including modem technology (e.g., information theory), call center optimization software, forensic software technology, network management technology, statistical based advertising software, broadband over power lines,Smart Grid systems, mobile telephone devices and systems, digital broadcast transmissions, EKG monitors, various aspects of copiers, medical devices, RFID technology, battery technology, and various other technologies.

Mel received his law degree in 1995 from George Washington University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1985.  Mel worked as an electronics engineer from 1985 until 1993 when he began his legal career. 

Prior to receiving his law degree, Mr. Barnes earned a Professional Engineering license in the state of Maryland. Mr. Barnes is a member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, the State Bar of Maryland, and the Federal Circuit Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Barnes is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Shawn Collins - Vice President

Shawn Collins serves as a transaction facilitator with strong business development experience.  A natural communicator with enhanced insight and successful experience in multi-million dollar transactional negotiations as well as a full range of sales experiences proves beneficial for IP monetization.
Mr. Collins possesses a deep passion for negotiation and sales and his background has helped many clients reach monetization values exceeding their expectations.

Prior to joining Cronos, Mr. Collins negotiated high dollar transactions in a variety of other industries, developed sales consultant oriented companies and was a Sales Manager at a telecommunications company.
